Our carpet project for Jamia Mosque Anwar, also known as Smethwick Jamia Masjid, in the United Kingdom took shape through an eight-year process of discussion and evaluation.

Throughout this period, the Kalida and Mosque Anwar teams remained in contact, working together on the carpet’s quality, material and design. These discussions culminated in the selection of our Exclusive quality with a total weight of 5,000 g/m², manufactured using 100% Turkish wool.

More Than 10 Meetings in the UK and Demirci

During the decision-making process, the Kalida and Mosque Anwar teams met on more than 10 occasions. Meetings took place both in the United Kingdom and at our production facilities in Demirci, Manisa.

These meetings provided opportunities to discuss the mosque’s requirements and expectations directly. Alongside material and quality options, the teams considered how the carpet would complement the mosque’s architecture and the way its spaces would be used.

This communication over eight years allowed the final choice to develop through shared discussion and consideration.

The Choice: 5,000 g/m² Exclusive Quality

Following these evaluations, the project team selected our Exclusive quality with a total weight of 5,000 g/m².

This was one of the key decisions shaping the carpet’s texture and underfoot feel. We considered the material, woven construction and final surface treatments together, carrying the selected quality throughout the project.

Manufactured Using 100% Turkish Wool

We produced the Jamia Mosque Anwar carpets using 100% Turkish wool. The carefully selected wool was prepared for weaving as three-ply yarn, made by twisting three individual yarns together.

Every production stage, from yarn manufacturing and dyeing to weaving, shearing and finishing, was completed at our fully integrated facilities in Demirci. This allowed us to follow the agreed material and quality specifications throughout production.

Colour and Architectural Harmony Across 2,600 m²

We produced 2,600 m² of carpet for the project, with complementary colours selected for different areas. Brown tones were used on the ground floor, stairs and landings, while sky blue was chosen for the main prayer halls.

The ceiling design was reflected in the prayer-row lines, creating a visual connection between the mosque’s architecture and the carpet pattern. The carpet became an integral part of the overall interior design.

From Production to On-Site Fitting

Following production, we completed the on-site fitting, bringing the choices discussed over the years into the mosque’s prayer spaces.

The Jamia Mosque Anwar project became the tangible result of meetings in the UK and Demirci, jointly considered options, and the work carried out from manufacturing through to installation.
